With Gratitude I Want to Recognize My ADHD Supporters …
This post is dedicated to my ADHD support team … my cast and crew … the people behind the scenes … the wind beneath my wings. I really can’t explain the depth of my gratitude to have actually found a collection of people (my ADHD supporters) who truly love and care about me, who accept me as I am — people who want me to succeed and legitimately care not only that I succeed — but that I succeed as me!
And that means everything to me, considering that my whole life I’ve felt out of step compared to others. I’m still learning that the mold I was trying to fit wasn’t really meant for me. I’m still learning I don’t have to “be” anything else but me, and that being me is … ok.
Welcome Ladies and Gentlemen to the First Annual 2018 IMGY Awards!
Grab your popcorn and get comfortable! Let the show begin!
Our First IMGY Award Is for Best New ADHD Tribe in an Online Production. And the Award Goes to … YOU!
I may have just scratched the surface with finding my ADHD tribe, but so far it’s been such a wonderful experience to learn I’m not alone. For that, I thank you! There are so many of us out here, and though we are extremely diverse, it’s astonishing how much we relate and how much we understand each other. I’m so crazy thankful for every conversation, and for every connection.
Our Next IMGY Award Is for Best Mentoring Stunts and Visual Effects. And the Award Goes to … ADHD Experts!
I am incredibly grateful to these generous, knowledgeable experts in the field of ADHD who make quality helpful, engaging information available for us. They even take the time to like social media posts and follow you too! I’ve learned so much from them and couldn’t be more appreciative! (L to R: Thomas E. Brown, PhD; William Dodson, MD; Rick Green; Edward Hallowell, MD; Jessica McCabe; Terry Matlen, ACSW; Linda Roggli, PCC; Eric Tivers)
Tonight’s IMGY Award for Best Listener in a Supporting Therapist Role Goes to … Monique!
Where would I be without Monique? I’d be lost, that’s where! I can only wish each of you could find someone you feel as safe to bare your soul to. Monique is someone who really listens, who doesn’t judge, who asks and understands … and is fortunately trained in attention issues and adept enough to recognize ADHD was at the core of my internal chaos. Words can’t begin to express how indebted I am for that gift.
The IMGY Award for Best Friendship Duo in a Supporting Role Goes to … Dr. Clark & Cheyenne Magnus!
These two make every day feel like Christmas! Whenever they’re near, you can practically hear jingle bells. They are always warm and welcoming like a cup of peppermint cocoa. When I shared my news with them, despite my apprehension, they completely embraced me with love and grace … making this girl feel safe, loved and so very blessed.
And the IMGY Award for Best Emotional Support Animal in a Comedy Goes to … Feisty “Goose” Luca!
This dog, ya’ll! He is the silliest goose. Even though he can be a bit of a handful since he’s still learning and still technically a pup, this little guy has brought so much joy and surprise into our home. I can hardly believe he’s real sometimes. He’s like a giant living teddy bear. He serves as a body doubler for me when I’m working from home and he does amazing things for lifting my spirits with a couch cuddle or sweet glance.
The IMGY Award for Best Son in a Supporting Action Role Goes To … Esteban Lloyd “Estee” Luca!
There aren’t enough words to explain how much joy this little guy brings to my world. Not only do I love him dearly because he’s my son, but he’s literally such a wonderful person through and through. He’s truly kind, thoughtful, bright and clever. The room lights up with his laugh, which is quite possibly the best sound on earth.
And the IMGY Award for Best Husband in a Leading Adventure Role Goes to … Indigo “Indy” Luca!
This guy has been through thick and thin with me. I wouldn’t want to take on a single challenge without him. He’s got mad skills and a heart of solid gold. We’ve been on many adventures together — a few where we weren’t sure we’d make it, but we’ve proved to be determined and deeply loyal. Together we can face anything!
The IMGY Award for Best Original Screenplay Goes to … the Man Upstairs (“God”)
I gotta give credit where credit is due. The Writer of Everything wins the top award of the evening for creating it all. He wrote my story and created me the way I am for a reason. Feels good to be finally catching on.
Thanks So Much for Being a Part of the 2018 IMGY Awards!

Thanks again!
Thank you so very much for sharing your journey; it has helped me feel not so alone with my new diagnosis (I was diagnosed today, confirming my suspicions). I am 50 years old.
Wow. Thank you so much for sharing this with me. I’m so glad to help in any way. What a crazy ride this is, right?! Please stick around and keep me posted on how you are doing.
